McDonalds Franchises Dont Know How to Work It

I showed up with a Buy 1 Get 1 coupon through the McDonalds Mobile App. The scanner did not work and the cashier immediately mumbled to her manager, "We have another customer with a coupon". The manager started ranting out loud about how coupons will no longer be honored because her McDonalds location is taking a hit for this -- Why do I need to know this?
